Indoor Tournament Rules

  • Intramural: 9 players maximum per roster.
  • Travel: 12 players maximum per roster.
  • Players may only participate on one team per session. 
  • U12 and under play 6 vs. 6. U13 & older will play 5 v 5 including goal keeper.
  • Each team must have 5 players minimum to start game or it will be deemed a forfeit.
  • Coaches must bring the following to the tournament:
    • Completed Roster with jersey numbers
    • Medical Release for each player (does not need to be notarized)
    • Copy Birth Certificate (or league travel pass) for each player
  • In case of color conflict home team must change to alternate color. Goalie jersey must be a different color.
  • Shin guards, indoor soccer shoes or sneakers are mandatory. No outdoor cleats will be permitted.
  • Only goalies may wear long pants and/or other padding as deemed safe by the match referee.
  • No jewelry, hard headbands, watches, or other objects as deemed unsafe by the referee will be permitted.
  • Futsal balls will be used wherever possible.
  • Kickoffs are indirect. The ball may be played forward, backward, or sideways. Tapped balls are not in play – the ball must move forward, backward, or sideways.
  • The penalty area is the area inside the 3-point arc of the basketball court.
  • The goalkeeper must put the ball back into play within 6 seconds. Failure to put the ball back into play will result in an indirect kick for delay of game.
  • Goalkeepers cannot punt or drop-kick the ball. Ball must settle on the ground or be touched first, no "air" under the ball when kicked
  • Distribution from the keeper cannot cross the midfield line on a fly, without touching the floor or another player in the defensive end. A ball thrown directly over the midfield line results in an indirect free kick for the opposing team on the midfield line.
  • Goalkeeper throws the ball back in play rather than using goal kicks. Goal clearances are taken when the ball wholly crosses the goal line after being touched last by the attacking team. The goalkeeper must use his/her hands to roll, bounce or throw the ball from anywhere inside the penalty area to outside the penalty area.
  • Distribution from the keeper resulting from saves by the goalkeeper do not require to leave the penalty area before being touched by another player.
  • The goalkeeper may not kick the ball directly over the midfield line.
  • The goalkeeper may not score directly with his/her feet during the run of play.
  • No throw-ins. If a ball goes over the touchline a kick-in is taken. The ball must be placed on or no more than 10 inches behind the line and the kick must be taken within 6 seconds. Kick-ins must move off the touchline before being touched by another player. Kick-ins are indirect. A kick-in that goes directly in the opposing goal is a goal clearance for the opposing team. A kick-in that goes directly in the defensive goal is a corner kick for the opposing team. The goalkeeper may receive a kick-in.
  • The goalkeeper may only touch/receive the ball once per team possession.
  • All free kicks will be indirect except for major fouls occurring inside the penalty area, as these will result in a direct kick (penalty kick).
  • Corner kicks are indirect. The ball must be placed directly on the corner spot and the kick must be taken within 6 seconds.
  • Yellow card (caution): The offending player is shown a yellow card. If a player earns two yellow cards in a match, he is shown a red card.
  • Advantage will be applied. If the referee shouts, "play on" and gestures with both arms, the referee applies advantage and the play continues.
  • Red card (ejection): The offending team plays down for the remainder of the game. The offending player serves a minimum one-match suspension. The tournament committee reserves the right to suspend the player for the remainder of the tournament.
  • Free kicks are indirect. The ball must be stopped completely before the kick may be taken.
  • Penalty kicks: are taken from the penalty spot and must be shot at goal by a clearly identified kicker. All other players must line up on the other half behind the midfield line. The penalty spot will be 20 feet from the center of the goal.
  • Distance: For all of the above, except goal clearances, opponents may not be closer to the ball than 5 yards (15 feet). Defenders must allow 5 yards (15 feet) on free kicks.
  • Ceiling: If the ball hits the ceiling or another object, the team that did not touch the ball last restarts play with an indirect kick on the midfield line.
  • There will be NO offsides infractions during play
  • All substitutions are on the fly, this includes goalkeeping substitutions. Referees will not stop play for goalkeeping substitutions. A substitute may not enter the match until the player leaving the match is at the touchline. Any substitute who enters the field of play before the player being replaced has completely left the field of play may be shown a yellow card. 
  • The start of the buzzer effectively ends the game; there is no continuation or ball in flight at the buzzer.
  • The game can not end with a major penalty.
  • There is no overtime, injury time or stoppage time
  • Conduct:
    • All decisions made by tournament referees or tournament officials are final.
    • If a player is ejected from a game, they will be eliminated from the entire tournament and the team must play short one player for the rest of that game.
    • Game rules will be in accordance with FIFA and ENYYSA.
    • Any coach, spectator, or player who is participating or non-participating is subject to ejection from the tournament for any conduct deemed unsportsmanlike by the tournament's officials.
    • NO FOOD OR DRINK outside of the cafeteria.
    • NO SMOKING in the building
    • NO BALL PLAYING outside of the gym.
    • The decisions of the referees and tournament officials will be final and binding. There will not be any arbitration.
    • Each team participating in the tournament will do so at its own risk and agree to accept responsibility for the injury.
    Standings & Scoring: 
    The highest number of goals scored will decide each game. Scoring will be 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 points for a loss.
    • There will be a 5-goal differential rule. Running up the scores will not be tolerated. In the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship, we encourage teams not to run up the scores and try to keep within a 5-goal differential.
    • Bonus points. Based upon goal differential, a maximum of 3 points per game can be awarded.
      Example: team A scores 4 and team B scores 1. Team A is awarded three (3) bonus points. If Team A scores 6 and team B scores 1, team A is STILL awarded three (3) bonus points. There is no benefit to running up the score!
    • Tiebreakers: In the event of a tie, the following tiebreakers will apply:
      1. Head to head (if more than 2 teams are tied, these criteria will be skipped)
      2. Most wins
      3. Fewest goals allowed
      4. Most bonus points
      5. Most shutouts
      6. Penalty kick shootout (each team takes 1 shot, alternating until there is a winner)
    Cancellation Policy:
    Cancellations due to inclement weather or acts of God will be announced on this website.
    In this event of inclement weather or any other “Act of God,” which would prevent the continuation of the
    games, the tournament will be canceled. Partial refund checks may be paid to each team at the
    discretion of the tournament committee.
    Full refunds will be given to any team if they request a refund 6 weeks prior to the event. A $75
    administrative fee will be subtracted from our tournament fee if you withdraw from the tournament.
